Native American Mascots Name Are Meaningful

Native American are worrying, "What would be left of our heritage and how we will tell the children in the future?" In the past, there had been many conflict between the European settlements and the Native tribes. There had been wars and diseases that almost destroyed the Native American race. After many conflict, the Native Americans may survived but their cultured is still endangered, today. Some tribes want to preserve little of their foundation. As their heritage is being forgotten, some Native American approves sport organizations using Native American names like Utes because American sports are very popular and well-known  The United States NCAA, high school sports team, and professional sports team uses many Native American symbols to depict the significant purpose of early American  history. Their names are used in sports to give recognition for past events to the Native Americans for their heroism.  Native American tribes wants to enforce the use of mascots pertaining to their culture because of their true identity.

The Siletz Tribe disapproves board of the Oregon administration education to ban the use Native American Mascots. The Warriors is a Mascot that the Siletz tribe uses to remind them of their ancestors as brave men who fought to protect the tribe. The Siletz community does not see this as a racial issue because it symbolizes the powerful symbolism of their heritage. It represents courage, love, protection, and pride of the Native American culture. For example, football is a tough sport and the Warriors Mascot of the Native American community relate very well to football. Thus, football helps depict the very battle between the European colonies and the Native Americans. The Siletz Tribe feels neglected because the Native American students of the high school who would be the next generation would not acknowledge their cultural identity. Therefore, the ban on the use of Native American Mascots is futile and the important part of the identity of Native American lies within high school sports.
Native American Mascots are an important aspect of the Native of American community. Though racism is an issue, Native American Mascots is a powerful identity symbol rather than racist tool. Mascots can be portrayed in many ways but it is more respectful to the chieftains and the Native society to use symbols that would helps other acknowledge their history. One lady in Oregon stated in the video that it would give more respect to the Native Americans to help high school student open their eyes of the history that existed with the Native American. Thus, this will help the aspect of viewing Native American culture as a strong and proud society. If you were to say Washington Redskins, of course, that would offended almost all of the Native American society due to skin color. However, Mascot like Atlanta Braves or Siletz Tribe Warriors shows strength and a soldier type mentality. It shows the community how strong the Native American community is and how well they fit into the tough sports of football, basketball, and more. Native American Mascot is a necessity to Native American communities because it identifies their way of life and past generations.
